2 Week Weight Check

Well, this post is a little late (what else is new) but I wanted to update anyone that may be reading this blog (which may be no one) on how Aaron has progressed now that we are supplementing with formula.

Within DAYS of starting our supplementing, Aaron went from sleeping 4-5 hour stretches at night to SEVEN-NINE hours!!! Whoooo! Soooo, apparently his waking up in the middle of the night was because he was truly.HUNGRY. Poor little guy. :( Needless to say, we were definitely elated about this "side-effect" of supplementing.

We also realized we had NO.IDEA what a wet diaper was prior to supplementing. We thought we did but, oh my, his diapers are soaked through now! Yay for hydration!

Not to mention, he went from pooping once a week (which we had been assured by many was normal) to pooping THREE-FOUR times a day...hello NEWBORN. Yikes! This was a not-so-pleasant "side-effect," for two reasons: 1) he decided the best time to poop was 3 AM and 2) we use cloth diapers. :{

Other than that we saw a HUGE change in his disposition; he has been so much happier than he was as a newborn these past couple of months but, after supplementing, we have almost no fussiness at.all. What a difference! He is happy, laughing, coo-ing, and "talking" up a storm!

Coincidence or not, within days, he also starting sitting up with NO support, from us or his little arms. We now have a "sitter" on our hands!

We were checking his weight every couple days at home and, while not entirely precise, we could tell he was rapidly gaining weight. We were excited to see where he would really land when he went back to the doctor's.

Last Thursday, we went in for our two-week weight check, meaning two weeks after starting the supplements. When he was weighed, my heart almost flew out of my chest! He gained well over a POUND in two weeks (this is GREAT when you compare his gaining .6 oz in a MONTH prior to this)! Yay! When his doctor emailed me later that day, he was just as thrilled (our appointment was just with a nurse) and said he gained FAR more than he thought he would. So, it appears that his poor weight gain had everything to do with calories and he is a healthy little boy! Praise the Lord!!

So, Mommy's lesson is learned (hopefully). Humility + trusting the Lord is the only way to parent.....there's no room for prideful-independence. :)

His six month well check is right around the corner! Hopefully good news will continue to abound!
